RaciRacin' Update 2006

By Duane

Sorry for not keeping up!

2006 Season

Oktoberfest 2006

Well Oktoberfest went pretty good for us this year. Much better than last year. We started out on Thursday night this year. The Big 8 Series was first on tap. We did not qualify on time. But Mike made up for it in the last chance race putting the Dillman Engineering/Krachey's Bp Monte Carlo in the winners circle. We had to start in the back of the feature, And worked our way up to 12th place out of 44 cars. Not to shabby.

Next was the LaCrosse Late Models on Sunday. We had to run a last chance race for this one to because they took qualifying from the 100 lapper on LAX's last night. They took 6 cars out of this one. Mike started 8th and ended up 4th. Not until Lorrin Kurth ripped of our left front fender though. The boys worked hard putting the car back together. We started in the back of this one to and Mike did a great job again bringing the car up through the field. I think we ended up 12th or 13th in this one also. What a great weekend, the weather was great and so was the racing. I would like to thank all that made our weekend special. Especially our sponsors and all our great fans........Thanks from Mike and Duane!!!!!!!!

2-10-2006

Lets hope the Spring classic is a little more kind to us this year. We are getting close with the car. I hope to have a few more pictures up soon. Just to get everyone up to speed with the new year. The car is shaping up. The new body showed up on Thursday, and so did the new seat from Gibbs racing. This is a cool piece. It is one of Bobby Labontes old seats. Bob, Terry, Chad, Mike spent the day on Thursday working on the car. The new seat is installed and the back of the car is done. We will be working on the front on Saturday. Getting ready for paint. Hopefully Royce can get it in this week to spray it. The new Tranny from M & R racing transmissions showed up on Friday. We really need to thank Brian Dillman again this year for getting us started on a new season. The new powder coating on the car turned out very nice. There are a couple pictures of that here to look at. Tomcat has the engine tore down and ready to go back together. We had to send the crank out this year to get it checked. It had a little abuse last year! Hopefully that get done next week also. Only 3 weeks until racing starts and we want do a big promotion for Kracheys and their new Car wash soap additive vendor. RAINX.....

Stay tuned for more..........................................

Rockford Speedway Spring Classic

Well the luck holds true. Friday night practice went great. The car shook down pretty good with no major problems. The gang pushed the car into the trailer for the night. Then went for supper and a couple of nice local establishments.

Saturday however did not go well. Mike got about 3 or 4 laps in running behind Gerry Gille. They were both running nose to tail with a nice rhythm going. Coming out of turn 4 the two of them came up behind a slowing Andy Niles car. The niles car looked as though he was going to pull to the bottom and let the two guys that where up to speed go around on the high side. NOT! Andy decided to pull back up into the groove and when he did his car went sideways. Sending Mike and Gille into the wall. At first look I thought the fender got banged up a little, But when we got to the pits the whole right front wheel was GONE! Sheered right off......Bumper busted, Fender ripped off and even the right side door bars were almost completely ripped off. Mike hit the wall so hard the whole body of the car got pushed back 2 inches. I think we where all surprised at how much damage there was, even Mike did not think he hit that hard. I would also like to take this time to thank everyone that helped out. It is amazing how much the fellow racer kicks in to help. I would especially like to thank Tony Bagstad for all his help. Thanks Tony.....

Well after we got the car back together, shortly before time trials, Mike qualified back in the field with a 14.6sec lap. Not bad for having the right side of the car ripped off. We did not get any practice in so Mike was a little gun shy in time trials and rightfully so. Heat race was not bad finishing 4th. The feature we got to start in the rear. Rockford is definitely a  drivers track and if ya stay clean you can do well. We started in the back of a 22 car field and finished 9th. An awesome job of being patient by Mike. Exactly what you need to do at Rockford. Without the all the damage I am positive we would have had a better starting spot and a better finish. We definitely had a top 5 car.  Oh well we will get them next time. I think we visit Rockford Speedway 2 more times this year. We have a blast at Rockford and would like to thank Greg McCarns for the hospitality
